Newfoundland Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Mowgli represents our first collaboration with Bucks County SPCA to save a dog and find him a forever, loving home. Mowgli is a young, 80-pound lab/Newfoundland mix, brought to the shelter as a stray. We met Mowgli two weeks ago after he was having trouble making an adjustment to the shelter environment, appearing ill-at-ease and growling at times. Even so, he had bonded to some of the SPCA staff, and had become a favorite of many who worked there. They wanted Mowgli in an environment that better suited his needs and from which he could be adopted. So, we brought Mowgli to Central Bark Doggy Daycare to get socialized with other dogs, ... (Read More)and two-leggeds too! Mowgli has fared beautifully at Central Bark. He has adjusted well to his surroundings. After breakfast every day, he goes to the large play-nap area, where he has spent time with more than 30 other dogs. He has shown no signs of aggression. Mowgli is a really good dog. But he is also a bit fearful, which shows at times in his defensive behavior. Mowgli will bark and growl a bit when he first meets a person or another dog, but within a few minutes will calm down and be friendly. It seems he doesn't know what to make of other dogs being walked, and he will growl at them. But he has not demonstrated any aggression whatsoever. Mowgli is up-to-date on shots, neutered and fully vetted. He knows basic commands and gets along well with adults and children alike. He would, however, prefer to be the only cat in the house!     Newfoundlands love to swim and actually have webbed feet! There was once a Newfoundland that weighed 260 pounds. Newfoundlands have often rescued drowning people by swimming to them and pulling them out of the water. The artist Sir Edwin Landseer often painted Newfoundlands and one color variation of the breed is now called Landseer.
