Rescue Me ID: 15-01-13-00282Lazy Levi (male)

Newfoundland Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Very Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Introducing Lazy Levi; a 6 year old Newfie mix. He is looking for a forever home or a foster home. If you are looking for a low energy, quiet and all around chill dog, then your search is over! Levi is a sweet soul and extra fluffy, he is about 60 pounds and on the smaller side for a Newfie. He found his way to animal control in Indiana when his owner went into a nursing home. Our hearts went out to this poor guy, so he came to Castaway. Levi does great with adults and is a perfect gentleman in the crate. He would love a home where he could be the center of attention though, since he is not really a fan of sharing his space with other ... (Read More)dogs. He is a pretty low key guy and is more than happy to just nap the day away! He doesn't need much exercise but does walk decent on a leash. He is fully housebroken and will absolutely melt your heart. Levi is ready and waiting to find his forever family. **Levi is also lucky enough to be a sponsored dog. This means that a portion of his adoption fee has already been covered.** If you are interested in adopting or fostering, please go to our website at www.castawaypetrescue.org and fill out an application. Please bring any dogs, children, and decision makers to your appointment. Be prepared to adopt and take your new family member home that day if we have a match. Please note that adoption counselors will only know of your interest if you submit an application. They do not see emails sent to the administration email account. The adoption counselor can answer your questions when they call after receiving your application. Please remember we are an all volunteer organization. Minimum Adoption Donation is $200 (includes deworming, microchip with free registration, age appropriate vaccinations, spay/neuter if performed by our vet, 30 days of health insurance). Any donation above the minimum is appreciated Foster Home Location: Grayslake, IL (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-12-02-00455Duke (male)

Newfoundland Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats
Personality: Low Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

All Duke wants is a real home who will love and care for him forever! Duke was in a kill shelter out of time, they had held him 4 months hoping someone would adopt or rescue him because the shelter workers liked him so much. He had been picked up as a stray and was not claimed. A friend contacted us and we couldn't say no, even though large, black, and older often means he will be passed over for adoption and live in a kennel here a long time. He is a very handsome big boy, has very large bones, but was only 80 to 85 pounds when we rescued him when he should be 100. He is now 94 and gaining steadily. We had him neutered, had a couple benign ... (Read More)lumps removed, and his teeth cleaned. The vet guessed him to be about 8 years old and said his teeth were in great shape. He was treated for heart worms, is current on vaccinations and microchipped. He is housebroken, crate trained and a great dog. I don't know how he is with children. He likes to be boss over the food and toys with other dogs so being an only dog, or with a happy submissive dog would be best. He will lay down to play with our puppies and was very sweet and careful, but didn't want them to come near him when he was eating. He is fine with cats. He really doesn't know any commands that I know of but would love someone who would like to teach him some fun tricks. He loves to fetch and play with his favorite big kong toy, and tough tennis balls. He's well housebroken. Even though he's older he can play like a puppy. Vet's phone number you use currently or in the past is required to adopt for a reference. We have 30 rescued dogs of all sizes all praying for a real home! (Less)

Newfoundland Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Turner is a handsome boy who was at a high kill shelter and out of time. He is lab mix, we were told he looks lab newfoundland by a vet, but it may also be lab -newfoundland -chow? since his tongue is spotted? He has a great personality, wants to be with you, loves attention, gets along well with a large variety of dogs. I think he is good with cats. We haven't had him around any children so not sure on children but he loves adults and is very friendly. He is fully vetted, heart worm negative and on preventative. About 60 pounds and 2 to 3 years old. We required a vet clinic you use currently, or if no current pets your last vets number to ... (Read More)call for a reference prior to adopting. (Less)
